10 Reasons why is it hard to get good support from consulting firms?
The consulting firm business model is based on getting big new clients, high utilization rates, and selling and implementing software.
The best consultants are the first ones picked to go onto the next job.
The best consultants want to work on the latest product (the newest job).
Consultant performance reviews are weighted heavily on consulting billable hours. It is hard to get a lot of billable hours on support jobs because the work is choppy.
By the time an implementation is complete, the customer is tired of the consultants and the consultants are tired of the customer.
Juniors or difficult to staff people are usually the people that do support. Difficult to staff may mean that travel does not suit them.
